About this deal

The King can be seen wondering if he is the monarch in Beanotown, and the Queen informs him that children rule in the fictional town. The Prince and Princess of Wales also feature in the comic strip as well as singer Dua Lipa. In 2018, The Beano poked fun at Conservative MP Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg by sending him a “cease and desist” letter after a young reader pointed out his resemblance to character Lord Snooty. The special year will be commemorated across 2023 with a special comic issue, a national press and media campaign, schools’ activity and special appearances from the comic’s celebrity fans. More details of the celebrations will be announced soon. Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here . To ensure as many children as possible get the chance to enjoy the special edition, 2,023 issues will be given out to classrooms across the country through the Beano for Schools programme.

New characters introduced to one of Dundee-based publisher DC Thomson’s most well known titles are vetted by digital focus groups of children. The authors of the winning entries will also receive a limited-edition Gnasher badge each (15 badges in total). These are the Competition Information and Terms and Conditions for the “Beano Birthday 2023” Competition to contribute to the Beano Birthday mini-magazine, inserted in the Beano 85th Anniversary issue, on sale on 26.07.2023.
