Take the iconic Alessi Plisse toaster by Michele De Lucchi for example, featuring high fashion pleated surface, the toaster exudes refined style and is perfect as a statement art piece on your counter. Established in 1921, Alessi is one of the celebrated “Factories of Italian design”, creating innovative and beautiful houseware in collaboration with international designers, architects and artists. Each unique design features high quality craftsmanship with close attention to detail. A kettle teapot with a refined form, simple yet meticulous, that conceals an exasperated search for details, a typical trait of Fukasawa's expressive purism.

Alessi Plissé MDL06 B/UK - Electric Kettle in Thermoplastic

Giovanni Alessi created the kitchenware brand Alessi in 1921 on Lake Orta - a small valley in the Italian Alps known for its traditional metal & wood handicraft. It is a smart object, elegant, but at the same time playful and fun: when the water starts boiling, the bird sings, leading to an inevitable smile. The 9093 kettle, with bird-shaped whistle is one of the best-selling Alessi objects in the world. The design of this stainless steel induction hob kettle, created by Michael Graves in 1985, mixes the influences taken from European Art, American Pop and quotes from pre-Columbian cultures. Graves's unique visual language is the reason behind the extraordinary success that the kettle has had since the year of its production. It is a smart object, elegant, but at the same time playful and fun: when the water starts boiling, the bird sings, leading to an inevitable smile. The sound created by the notes was similar to the one of the siren of the steamboats that sailed the waters of the Rhine: a memory from Richard Sapper's childhood, as sweet and pleasant as the sound he wanted for his kettle. Alessi is truly a "dream factory"! This famous Italian brand has been enhancing our daily lives for more than 80 years thanks to its beautiful and functional items which are designed by leading architects and designers. At Alessi, design has been a family affair since 1921. Initially focusing on coffee services and trays, Alessi acquired international popularity during the 1950s through working with renowned architects and designers such as Ettore Sottsass. There are countless cult Alessi items on display in museums around the world The link between the shape of Aldo Rossi's kettle and its name is clear. The cone, a constant presence in his architectural designs, is transformed into a miniature monument becoming icon. Since the 1980’s Alessi have focused on creating “designer objects” rather than everyday accessories and have collaborated with over 500 celebrated designers who have each brought something unique to the brand. They are proud to be part of the Italian Design Factories movement creating products that are practical to use yet part of the bigger design picture.
