About this deal

Dedicated Transport: Raider with disintegrator cannon, grisly trophies, chain snares – 100pts – Covens (Dark Technomancers) That’s right – these alarmingly acrobatic assassins can make a cameo in Aeldari armies of both the smooth and spiky varieties. This new Warhammer 40k Eldar Combat Patrol has been confirmed by GW, but what kind of value is inside the box? For new players or players looking to start an entire Aeldari army this box is a Repeat for sure. Mainly if you want to run a Saim-Hann list, but also just because you’ll get a fantastic core to a collection. You’ll find use for just about everything in the box. The only “issue” is that after 12 jetbikes, you’re kind of leaning hard into playing Saim-Hann. A: It depends entirely on what kind of list you want to run at higher point values, but I can guarantee that you want:

With the arrival of Hive Fleet Leviathan, the Third Tyrannic War had begun – but after this inexorable swarm ran afoul of Uriel Ventris and the warriors of Ultramar , the Hive Mind clearly decided that while the blue ones were tasty, they might be more trouble than they’re worth. It was time to see what flavour the red ones were.** Unlike in 2k games where you can afford some units in your list that are only there to screen or only there to score secondaries, in 500 point play every unit in your list needs to be able to reliably perform at least two of the following jobs: objective control, secondary scoring, target elimination, screening, trading up, buffing or debuffing key units. It comes armed with a Bright Lance for a little extra punch and it’s standard twin Shuriken Catapults. War Spiders can hit monstrously hard, especially with the Exarch power “Surprise Assault,” as can a 10-elf unit of Dire Avengers in the Webway with the Exarch Power “Shredding Fire” and the stratagem, “Bladestorm”. They deploy a combination of powerful psykers who read the skeins of fate to predict the outcome of combat, soldiers who have walked martial paths that grant them skills beyond human ken, hardy walking constructs piloted by the souls of long-dead warriors, and lightning-fast anti-gravity bikes and tanks.

The Angels Excelsis Chapter fell to the last man in Baal’s defence, the excommunicated Knights of Blood returned to lend a hand, and a whopping five Chapter Masters gave their lives to fight the Tyranid bio-horrors. Even with the Sanguinor getting involved, it looked like it could be the end for the Blood Angels – only a miracle could save them. In conclusion, the Aeldari Combat Patrol box earns a solid 7/7 for its harmonious unit selection and the strategic depth it offers. Though the Aeldari may not be the most durable, they more than make up for it with their psychic abilities, speed, and grace, making them a rewarding and engaging faction to master. For the Craftworlds! Plenty of Boarding Patrol boxes are coming to join the fun – but the starfaring Aeldari are masters of sailing through the void, and their spiky cousins are no strangers to raiding stranded vessels and even space hulks. Boarding Patrol: Eldar Presuming that you select a Combat Patrol mission from the Core Rulebook rather than trying to shoe-horn in a mission from Chapter Approved designed for 1k games, all of missions feature 4 objectives that are scored during your command phase starting turn 2. You get 5 points for controlling one, 5 more for controlling 2, and another 5 for controlling more than your opponent. (Consider also that this last objective is worth even more mathematically because scoring it by definition means you are also preventingyou opponent from scoring at least 5 points. In two-player games, preventing your opponent from scoring is the same as scoring yourself.) Yesterday, we unveiled the new Tyranid codex, as well as the Combat Patrol that’s coming out alongside it. But just who are these extra-galactic (and extra-hungry) space bugs, and why do they love eating Space Marines so much?

40k Eldar Combat Patrol Box: What is the Value?

The larger consideration is that factions with many such units, like Custodes, can be monstrous to play against in small games, which is all the more reason to consider how your list will deal with units that it could normally just outmaneuver.

The Aeldari are an ancient and once-proud race whose hubris caused their demise. As their civilisation reached new heights of technology and culture, and they came to dominate the galaxy around them, they began to seek stranger and darker pleasures. Enter Roboute Guilliman – the ideal nemesis for a Bloodthirster who loves fighting Primarchs and an alien species that took a bite out of Macragge. Accompanied by the forces of the Indomitus Crusade, the Lord Commander cleared Baal of Tyranids… for now. Plan your army– You’ll want to think about what sort of list you want to start with before you start buying anything: Do you want the mobile ranged firepower of the Kabals, the lightning-fast melee threat of the Wych Cults, or the deceptively-durable threat of the Haemonculus Covens? Or do you want to try to leverage the flexibility that comes with bringing a bit of each? These are all perfectly fine ways to get started. The point is that in some cases you will be better off letting your opponent have the objectives early and figure you can do most of your own primary objective scoring after you have largely tabled the opposing force.

What are you looking for?

On top of that, you’ll get all you need to run more diverse armies than ever before, with combined hosts of Asuryani, Ynnari, and Harlequins. The Aeldari have always been a multifaceted race, but now they’re bringing their full strength to bear and you can demonstrate that on the tabletop like never before. Farseers with FORTUNE and EXECUTIONER in Ulthwe or Children of Prophecy lists are a good example of this kind of versatility. They can score “Warp Ritual” or “Psychic Interogation” with fair reliability and spend a CP to either provide a defensive buff, debuff, or do some real damage with EXECUTIONER. Alternatively, they can pivot into full murder-mode throwing down SMITE and EXECUTIONER on the same target if something really needs to die. (EXECUTIONER is amazing in 500pt games by the way, for obvious reasons.)
