About this deal

Blindsided, she tries to come to grips with what happened all those years ago. But in the end, what she discovers is that sometimes a house, is just a house where you live and have memories, but a home is really who your heart truly belongs to and who you love, no matter where you live. That is the real joy of being home.

The colorful and dramatic characters are described as complex and complicated. There is “good and evil” in some characters. The protagonist, Emma Jansen, a Chef, is devastated when she hears that the house she grew up in will be demolished. She takes the train to Glen Cove to see the mansion and the apartment over the garage where she lived with her family. Emma’s mother was the maid to a wealthy family. Emma remembers her childhood friends, Henry and Leo. Henry was the wealthy grandson, and Leo was the son of the family’s driver. Emma always loved Henry, but it seemed forbidden because of Henry’s wealth. In 1959, the book was adapted into a film by screenwriter Robert Anderson and director Fred Zinnemann. The Nun's Story starred Audrey Hepburn as Sister Luke. It was a critical and box-office success, and was nominated for eight oscars at the 32nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Hepburn's third nomination for Best Actress. The Audrey Hepburn Estate is set at the estate on Long Island that inspired the setting of the classic movie Sabrina. Emma Jansen grew up at the estate; her mother was a maid there. She was in love with the grandson of the owners, Henry, a charming golden boy. Leo, the chauffeur's son, had a crush on Emma and they were best friends. Years later, when Emma hears the estate is being demolished by a developer (Leo!) she visits to see her childhood home one more time. This opens a new chapter for Emma, Leo, and Henry ... with history of the estate interwoven.

As someone who loves classic Hollywood, I adore her trio of novels named for the glamour girls of Hollywood - Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and now, Audrey Hepburn. And if you love to geek out on old Hollywood trivia and/or want to see for yourself the insane amount of research Janowitz completed prior to writing this novel, make sure to read the authors note once you have finished the story.

This is one of those books you have to go into knowing that you’re just reading it for fun. Pretty much everything in the book is unrealistic and there are some plot holes, so I think it’s wise to know that before you read. However, the passage of her death did almost make me cry; but that might just be because she died. Still, I'm a guy so I would never publically admit that. Hmm. When Emma Jansen discovers that the grand Long Island estate where she grew up is set to be demolished, she can't help but return for one last visit. After all, it was a place filled with firsts: learning to ride a bike, sneaking a glass of champagne, falling in love. Just Being Audrey is a wonderfully illustrated biography of Hepburn’s life. This book traces her life from childhood, as a little girl in Nazi-occupied Europe, right through to her success as a Hollywood icon. In particular, the book focuses on Hepburn’s personal qualities, especially her kindness and consideration for others and highlights how these traits helped to make her one of the most admired actresses in Hollywood. The Ultimate Coffee Table Book– If you are searchingfor a great photo book of Audrey or just in general, then this is the one you absolutely need to get! Emma tries to plead with Leo to stop the destruction of the mansion. But Leo, now a business owner refuses. Emma’s heart is broken. She inevitably calls on her once love, Henry to help her convince Leo to stop the demolition. But Henry is on Leo’s side. As the three friends are reunited, memories of them as children surface and are seen quite differently by each.

I flew through the first 1/3 of this book, but the rest of the story really slowed down and began to meander and become repetitive, which lead to me loosing interest. If you’re looking for a memoir reminiscent of the Audrey Hepburn film, Roman Holiday, then look no further than Bella Figura by Kamin Mohammadi. This gem of a book tells the story of Mohammadi’s life, following her chance move to Italy. Particularly inspiring are the fantastic characters she meets along the way; from plumbers who teach her how to make pasta al pomodoro to eccentric neighbors who help teach Mohammadi how to enjoy a slower pace of life. Set in Florence, this book brings the famous city to life as she experiences new adventures. I will say this: I found myself incapable of reading a lot before I had to close the book and gaze romantically at the cover, wondering how strange people would think me to be if I up and kissed it. Hulme wrote the book based partly upon the experiences of her friend, Marie Louise Habets of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, a Belgian nurse and an ex-nun whom she met while working with refugees in post-war Europe. The author sponsored the former nun's immigration to the United States, and later converted to Catholicism. [1] It often is stated erroneously that the book was based upon Hulme's experiences. Here is where I began to dislike the story, as the trio became adults and grew apart after moving away from the estate, Emma's hesitant romantic behavior not only started to become grating to me but she outright abuses her relationship with both men under the guise that her heart doesn’t fully know what it wants. The character of Emma comes off as an immature, undecisive woman who wants everything to fall her way and blames both men for letting her down at various times in her life. Brenda Janowitz’s THE AUDREY HEPBURN ESTATE is a truly beautiful novel about the power of home, first loves, and dark hidden family secrets; sprinkled with a little bit of Audrey magic and lots of Easter Eggs…as Janowitz is known for, with her now third Hollywood icon-centered novel after The Grace Kelly Dress and The Liz Taylor Ring. So we’re suddenly in a classic rom-com situation, and their final-scene kisses in the pouring rain becoming the blueprint for the genre, from Four Weddings and a Funeral to The Notebook. The novella meanwhile – despite the frothy, fizzing readability of Capote’s shimmering prose – leaves a more bitter taste, Holly scooting away in a cab never to be seen again. Golightly is a wild thing; there’s no containing her, no making her stay. She keeps on going lightly over the world, even if the need to keep reinventing herself starts to look more like a heavy burden.
